Dear Customers,

As I shared in my opening, we are outraged at this proposed Chrysler action.  There is no valid business purpose served by this action.  For that reason, we will oppose this in court.  However, the federal government, through the task force, is financing this activity.  Were it not for the federal government’s financing, Chrysler would not be able to terminate our franchises. 

If you think that’s a bad use of your taxes, please contact your congressman and senator and tell them that.  The contact information is available here.  Be sure and point out the following:

  • 2 out of 3 cars and light trucks on the road are Detroit 3 brand vehicles that totals 150 Million vehicles out of 237 Million.
  • There are only 13,000 physical locations in the country, right now, where you can take your Detroit 3 brand car for factory service.
  • Although there are only 87 Million imports, there are 10,000 locations to service them, keeping in mind that many dealers sell and service both domestic and import, that’s why the 20,000 locations add up to 23,000…some are counted twice.
  • In the 1950’s, with only a little over 50 Million vehicles on the road there were 41,000 Detroit 3 brand dealers where you could get factory service.  Obviously things were a lot more convenient for Detroit 3 customers then compared to now.
  • There can’t be too many dealers, there’s probably too few.

Good management would reach out to those 150 Million customers and do everything in their power to make it as convenient as possible to service their cars today, in hopes that they might encourage them to buy another Chrysler product.  It’s certainly their best hope, and probably their only hope.  To deliberately make it harder for customers to get service, is self destructive and benefits only Ford Motor Company (which is smart enough not to be reducing dealers) and the import manufacturers.
