FITZGERALD SUBARU PRESENTS A $33,000 CHECK TO THE WASHINGTON ANIMAL RESCUE LEAGUE

Fitzgerald Rockville and Gaithersburg dealerships work to find “Forever Homes” for local homeless pets

Washington, DC (April 18, 2015) —This Saturday morning, you could not only hear the jangling of new car keys at the Rockville Fitzgerald Subaru, but also the happy barks and meows from pets that found new “forever” homes! Fitzgerald Auto Malls hosted a pet adoption event and celebrated the second year of working with the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL).

Twenty homeless dogs and cats from WARL were available for adoption. But more exciting was the presentation of the $33,000 check to WARL. The two Maryland Fitzgerald Subaru dealerships in Rockville and Gaithersburg raised the funds last December in the “Subaru Share the Love” event. For every new Subaru purchased or leased during the “Share the Love” event, $250 was donated to the owner’s choice of participating charities.

“This is about making a difference for all our four-legged friends, and we appreciate the partnership with both WARL and with Subaru to make this possible,” said Dottie Fitzgerald, President of Fitzgerald Subaru.

“We are honored to be able to support both our owners’ philanthropic spirit and the work of these incredible organizations,” said Alan Bethke, vice president of marketing, Subaru of America, Inc. “Share the Love is a special event and Subaru is proud to have donated $50 million to a host of national and local charities since the inception of the program. Subaru owners and retailers are making a positive impact in their communities.”

Do you know that nearly seven out of ten Subaru owners count a pet as a member of their family?  Because of that overwhelming commitment by Subaru owners to pets, Subaru partners with many animal welfare organizations nationwide, and Fitzgerald Subaru makes the local connection with their partnership with WARL.

“We gladly accept this generous donation, as Dottie Fitzgerald and Fitzgerald Subaru has been a true friend, not just to WARL, but to the countless dogs and cats, puppies and kittens, that are now a part of a loving family because of the pet adoption events at their many dealerships,” said Bob Ramin, CEO of WARL.

Fitzgerald continues to accept tangible items like pet food and supplies, and other support for WARL on a monthly basis as a part of their “Stuff A Subaru” campaign.  The food bank helps families facing financial difficulty hold on to and care for their pets. Grant funding helps WARL make homeless animals ready for adoption by providing medical care, performing spay/neuter surgeries, administering vaccines, and microchipping animals.

FITZGERALD SUBARU WINS THE SUBARU ECO-FRIENDLY DEALER AWARD

Jack Fitzgerald Says It’s the Right Thing to Do

ROCKVILLE, MD (APRIL 8, 2015)    Subaru awarded the Eco-Friendly Dealer Award to both Fitzgerald Subaru dealerships in Rockville and Gaithersburg this week. The Subaru Eco-Friendly award recognizes environmental stewardship and the reduction of a dealer’s carbon footprint on the environment and helping the Earth in the five key areas: energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, waste management and community involvement.

According to government figures, automobile dealerships are an energy-intensive industry, with facilities consuming about 110 kBTU per square foot compared to prime office space at 93 kBTU. That amount can add up to thousands of dollars in water and energy costs for the typical dealership per year. All dealerships have the ability to reduce energy costs by at least 20 percent with more advanced energy efficiency and aggressive energy management approaches.

“We are grateful for Subaru’s recognition of our Environmental Management System (EMS).  Our associates deserve the credit because they have worked hard to improve our recycling to maintain a robust EMS system.  We know, it’s simply just the right thing to do," said Jack Fitzgerald, CEO and founder of Fitzgerald Auto Malls.

Fitzgerald Auto Malls is the first automotive dealership group in North America to become ISO 14001 certified, the highest recognition available for quality management with a focus on the environment, a distinction that sets them apart from all other dealers.

As the first dealership to become an EPA Green Power Partner Member of the EPA Green Power Leadership Club and a long-standing member of the Clean Energy Partnership, Fitzgerald Auto Malls works hard to maintain a high level of environmental and energy consciousness. The goals of the Fitzgerald EMS system goes beyond simply meeting environmental laws and regulations, it extends to their everyday practices and business decisions, including:

·         Providing a safe working environment for their associates, customers and the surrounding communities.
·         Reducing the environmental impact and potential pollution of their products and services whenever possible
·         The continual improvement through the assessment and monitoring of their environmental impacts.
·         Creating a culture of awareness and commitment to Fitzgerald Auto Mall’s Environmental Quality Policy.

Fitzgerald Auto Malls recycles over 80 percent of all solid waste generated at Fitzgerald dealerships; that’s twice the national average for businesses. All electricity at Fitzgerald facilities is purchased from Green renewable energy sources, with 100 percent wind power at all of the dealerships in Maryland.

JACK FITZGERALD WINS HOOPS MADNESS CHAMPIONS FOR CHILDREN’S HEALTH AWARD

ROCKVILLE, MD – MARCH 23, 2015         At the Hoops Madness event last Thursday, the applause and cheering from the Longview Gallery in the Shaw neighborhood in Washington D.C. was not for the NCAA teams playing in the March Madness basketball games. The applause and cheering was for the Champion for Children’s Health Award recipients at the VIP fundraiser reception hosted by the Children’s Health Board of Children’s National Health System.

Jack Fitzgerald, CEO and founder of Fitzgerald Auto Malls, was among the four recipients of the Champion for Children’s Health award.  Fitzgerald started the Fitzgerald Child Car Seat Inspection Program in 1999, after learning the dangers of improperly installed child safety seats. Since then, Fitzgerald Auto Malls, in partnership with national and local government agencies, have been committed to injury prevention and increasing the number of lives saved through properly installed child safety seats. To date, over 45,000 have been installed and inspected. No other local volunteer program in the United States has ever achieved this many child safety seat inspections within a single program.

“It is the hard work of my employees and our partners that have made the Fitzgerald Child Safety Seat Program successful; the partnership with Montgomery County Fire & Rescue and Police Department, Safe Kids USA, and the many, many volunteers who have been integral to the success of our public-private partnership,” said Fitzgerald.

Charisse Brossard, the Hoops Madness event chair said, “We are truly humbled by the impact Jack Fitzgerald has had on our community.” She added, “The Hoops Madness is a ‘party with a purpose’ event, attracting more than 250 leaders in Washington’s government, business, medical, and the sports world and it warms my heart that we will able to continue to award grants to community-based programs for mental and behavioral health initiatives that make a difference for children in the Washington DC area.”

The other three recipients of the Champion for Children’s Health award are Congressman Chris Van Hollen,Coach John Jenkins with Just for Kids, and Dr. Laura Tosi, Director of the Bone Health Program, Children's National Health System. Along with Fitzgerald, they were recognized for theircommitment and leadership to advance the health and well being of children and their families.

Dottie Fitzgerald Recognized for Positive Impact in Montgomery County

Honored at the Third Annual Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame Event

ROCKVILLE, MD – October 29, 2014   Dottie Fitzgerald, Vice President of Fitzgerald Auto Malls, was honored today at the 3rd annual Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame Event at The Universities of Shady Grove. Along with four other honorees, Dottie Fitzgerald was recognized for her leadership, relentless efforts to reach challenging goals for her business, and the positive impact she makes to the Montgomery County business environment as a whole.

“It is an honor to be inducted into the Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame. I thank Jack whose leadership and vision has provided us with a place to flourish and make a difference in our own lives as well as the lives of others. And I thank our customers for their continuing loyalty and faith in us. They help make all things possible,” said Dottie Fitzgerald.
Her brother, Jack Fitzgerald, CEO and founder of Fitzgerald Auto Malls, recruited her to “temporarily” join his new dealership, Colonial Dodge, on Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda. Approximately 47 years later, that “temporary” position and single dealership location has evolved into her role as Vice President overseeing 39 locations, with 20 brands, and 1,400 employees throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

Dottie is a champion for young people entering the automotive workforce. Her involvement and dedication to the Montgomery County School System and its Auto Trades Foundation, which teaches young people the value of an education through a hands-on approach modeled after a dealership operation, is extraordinary. For 8 years, Dottie led the charge to pass legislation to improve Maryland law so students could be covered by workers compensation when they participate in education-based work experiences.

She is most passionate about creating relationships with organizations that are either dedicated to education for youth in the automotive industry or dedicated to the care and welfare of animals. She has personally adopted 4 German Shepherds from rescue organizations. In 2014, the Washington Animal Rescue League recognized her for her lifetime of advocacy on behalf of animals and many organizations.

The Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame brings area businesses together to honor Montgomery County’s special business leaders and support the scholarship fund at the Universities at Shady Grove. It is no wonder why Dottie Fitzgerald was recognized for her contributions in Montgomery County. In all aspects of her professional and personal life, Dottie lives the Fitzgerald Family philosophy, to ‘treat people the way we want to be treated with kindness, dignity, and respect,’ and to do good work by first being good people.
