Child Safety Seat Law Changes in Maryland on October 1

NORTH BETHESDA, MD – October 1, 2012          Effective October 1, 2012, changes to the Maryland child safety seat law eliminates a weight exemption which previously allowed children weighing 65 lbs or more to graduate from a child safety seat to an adult safety belt. The new law states that a child must be at least 8 years of age or older unless they are 4 feet 9 inches or taller.
Changes were implemented in an effort to increase the level of safety for child passengers and further protect them from the risk of severe injury. Although a child may weigh 65 lbs, they may not be physically tall enough to fit an adult seat belt safely without risking serious harm to themselves.
With car crashes still remaining as the number one killer of children ages 1 to 12 years of age, parents and caregivers must understand that with their child’s life at stake, it is imperative that they take responsibility and enforce proper child passenger safety. A child safety seat can only prove effective in helping to prevent injury if the seat is a proper physical fit to the child and if it is installed correctly. According to a recent survey conducted by NHTSA, 20 percent of all drivers of child passengers neglected to read any instructions on the correct way to install their child safety seat restraint.
Fitzgerald Auto Malls remains committed in our mission to help save the lives of children by hosting monthly child safety seat inspections.  These events are designed to install, check and help educate parents and caregivers on the correct way to install a child safety seat.
Monthly events are held at the White Flint Rockville dealership on Nicholson Lane, on the third Thursday of every month.  Visit www.FitzMall for details or to make an appointment.

Fitzgerald Leads in Awareness for Child Safety

Fitzgerald Dealerships Participate in National Child Passenger Safety Week

ROCKVILLE, MD – September 12, 2012 The 2012 National Child Passenger Safety Week falls on September 16-22 and serves as another reminder for parents and caregivers to keep America’s children safe.  During this time, free car seat inspection stations will be set up across the country to help ensure that children are getting the best protection and are in the correct child seat for their size and age.  The State Child Safety Seat Program is highlighting these local events to emphasize the importance of proper child passenger safety.

Fitzgerald Auto Malls has always worked to keep children safe.  In 1999, Jack Fitzgerald, CEO and founder, started the Fitzgerald Child Car Seat Inspection Program after learning about the dangers of improperly installed child safety seats.  For over 13 years, Fitzgerald Auto Malls works to prevent injuries and save lives of children through their monthly child safety seat inspections.

As of June 2012, Fitzgerald Auto Malls has installed and inspected over 42,000 child safety seats—the single largest number of inspections by a dealership group in the United States.  It is the first private organization to achieve this record number of inspections within a single program.  “We are committed to increasing the number of lives saved through properly installed child safety seats.  We are very proud of this accomplishment and we are proud to support the communities we serve,” said Jack Fitzgerald.

This commitment to child safety is just one of many ways Fitzgerald Auto Mall sets themselves apart from other dealers in the area.  Fitz Mall strongly believes in serving the communities by protecting children and reducing the number of injuries and fatalities that occur as a result of child safety seat misuse.

Fitzgerald Auto Malls is hosting their regularly scheduled child safety seat inspections on Thursday, September 20th in Rockville, MD and on Friday, September 21st in Annapolis, MD.
Monthly events are held at the White Flint Rockville dealership on Nicholson Lane, on the third Thursday of every month.

Fitzgerald Supports Hyundai Hope on Wheels

NORTH BETHESDA, MD – September 12, 2012  Fitzgerald Hyundai dealerships are working in partnership with Hyundai Motor America to support the fight against childhood cancer. September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the entire Fitz Mall family is committed to raising awareness within the local community.  Fitzgerald Auto Malls has three Hyundai dealerships, two in Maryland and one in Florida.  They are encouraging community members to show support by making a $1 donation at their nearby Fitzgerald Hyundai location.

The Hyundai Hope on Wheels Program brings together over 800 Hyundai dealers across the United States to help kids battle cancer.  Together, they have awarded more than $57 million for the fight against childhood cancer since the organization first began in 1998.

Every 36 minutes, a child is diagnosed with cancer in the United States.  Although 80 percent of cancers are being cured, it still remains the leading cause of death by disease in children.  Today, less than 3% of federal funding goes to pediatric cancer.  This shows how important these donated funds are in support of this life saving research that will one day help find a cure for childhood cancer.

Fitzgerald Auto Malls has always been committed to serving communities by protecting their children, whether it is with the nationally recognized Child Safety Seat Inspection Program or through the support of pediatric cancer research funding.

The Fitz Mall family believes fair and honest customer service, responsible environmental stewardship, and consumer safety and education are all integral parts of doing business.  It is their business philosophy.  “Doing things the ‘Fitz Way’ means treating everyone with honesty and respect, dealing in good faith, and creating ways to be better at what we do,” said Jack Fitzgerald, CEO and founder.  For more information on their child safety programs, please visit www.FitzMall.com.
