CHILD SAFETY SEATS

Fitzgerald Auto Malls Speaks Your Language

ROCKVILLE, MD – March 21, 2013        We get into our car, we buckle up our kids, and we think we’re safe. It’s something we almost take for granted, but do you know that the number one killer of children, ages 3 to 14, is motor vehicle crashes? Now take notice of the next chilling statistic… that 73 percent of child safety seats are incorrectly installed.

A local business has made a commitment to help the community. Cars lined up in Rockville today, on Nicholson Lane, as parents waited patiently to have their child safety seats installed and inspected. Jack Fitzgerald, founder and CEO of Fitzgerald Auto Malls, started the Fitzgerald Child Safety Seat Inspection Program in 1999 after learning about the dangers of improperly installed child safety seats. For the past 14 years, Fitzgerald Auto Malls, in partnership with national and local government agencies, has been committed to preventing injuries and increasing the number of lives saved through properly installed child safety seats.

Since 1999, morethan 100 Fitzgerald Auto Mall employees have earned their certification as Child Passenger Safety technicians. As of the end of last year, Fitzgerald has installed and inspected over 42,000 child safety seats. No other local volunteer program in the United States has ever achieved this many child safety seat inspections within a single program.

“We took a recent survey of our employees and found that 20 percent of our associates can speak another language.  We counted 45 languages, including English, spoken at Fitzgerald Auto Malls. We’ve taken a step towards translating some important facts about child safety seats, and we hope you’ll look to your community leaders for assistance in learning about the importance of having child safety seats properly installed and inspected,” said Jack Fitzgerald.

“Our community continues to become more diverse. We understand the importance of reaching out in as many languages as possible to educate parents and caregivers,” added Fitzgerald.

The Washington D.C. metropolitan area has been a magnet for international immigration since the late 1960s. In 2010, the Washington D.C. metropolitan area joined other places in the U.S., including Dallas, Houston, and New York, as majority minority regions.   The overall population growth in this area is fueled primarily by the growth of Hispanics and Asians.  In Montgomery County, the population is comprised of 17.47 percent Hispanics and 14.10 percent Asians.

Fitzgerald Auto Malls’ Child Safety Seat Inspection Program is free and open to the public. Inspections are held at the Buick|GMC dealership on Nicholson Lane in Rockville, MD, on the third Thursday of every month.  Visit www.FitzMall.com for details or to make an appointment.

FITZGERALD TOYOTA PRESENTS CUMBERLAND VALLEY ANIMAL SHELTER WITH A NEW TOYOTA

Toyota Program Donates 100 Cars to 100 Nonprofits in 100 Days

CHAMBERSBURG, PA – November, 28, 2012 – Fitzgerald Toyota today presented a new 2013 Toyota Sienna to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter (CVAS), as part of the Toyota 100 Cars for Good program, a major philanthropic initiative in which Toyota is giving away 100 cars to 100 nonprofits over the course of 100 days, based on votes from the public.

“As a proud member of the Chambersburg community, we are especially delighted to be a part of the Toyota 100 Cars for Good program and applaud the incredible work that Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter provides,” said Dottie Fitzgerald, Vice President of Fitzgerald Auto Malls.

100 Cars for Good is the first Toyota initiative that engages the public to determine how corporate philanthropic donations will be awarded. Individual members of the public were able to vote for which nonprofit they believe could do the most good with a new vehicle.  The program started in May 2012, and the shelter won the most votes through Facebook.

“At Toyota, we appreciate what a significant impact a new car can have for nonprofits in their work,” noted Michael Rouse, vice president of diversity, philanthropy and community affairs for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.  “All 100 of the winners of the 100 Cars for Good program are providing extraordinary and much-needed services, and we thank Fitzgerald Toyota for theirrole in delivering Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter’s car to them to help them with their important work. A six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty will also be provided for each vehicle, compliments of Toyota Financial Services.”

CVAS will use the new Toyota Sienna to help protect and provide care for homeless and abused animals in Chambersburg.  The volunteers had been using their own personal vehicles.

During the holiday season and beyond, Fitzgerald Toyota will be a collection center for monetary donations and pet items for the shelter. CVAS needs pet items such as sheets, blankets, gauze, pans, etc. Pet items and donations can be dropped off at Fitzgerald Toyota at 1436 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17201

JACK FITZGERALD APPLAUDS NBC NEWS 4 AND LIZ CRENSHAW FOR REPORT ON THE IMPORTANCE OF CHILD SAFETY SEAT INSPECTIONS

NORTH BETHESDA, MD – November 1, 2012   The odds are 1 in 2. These odds are pretty bad and this is the misuse rate of child safety seats in the United States.  Tonight at 5:00 pm, Emmy award winning consumer reporter, Liz Crenshaw, will show how to select the right child safety seat for your child, and more importantly, how to properly install it.  The segment airs on the evening news program on NBC News 4.
Jack Fitzgerald is passionate about the subject, passionate enough to commit his own resources and time to protecting kids. His employees put in hundreds of volunteer hours as certified installers at his monthly Fitzgerald Child Safety Seat Program events. “In 1999, my first year of the program, the misuse rate was 97%. The numbers have dropped to 50% year to date, but that’s still too high,” said Jack Fitzgerald, CEO and founder of Fitzgerald Auto Malls. “I’m happy that Liz Crenshaw is drawing attention to how seats have to be properly installed to keep your child safe.” Fitzgerald adds.
Fitzgerald has installed and inspected over 42,000 child safety seats. No other local volunteer program in the United States has ever achieved this many child safety seat inspections within a single program. “The success of this program is the public-private partnership we have with the local Montgomery County police and fire rescue volunteers, and working with the office of the Montgomery County Safe Kids Coalition. They have been integral in helping to organize and promote the events,” explains Fitzgerald.
U.S. National Highway Traffic and Safety states the misuse of car seats remains a big problem and motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among children ages 3 to 14. The latest numbers show that every day in the US, an average of 4 children younger than 14 were killed and 529 were injured in motor vehicle crashes.
See Liz Crenshaw’s report tonight at 5:00, and mark your calendars for the next monthly child safety seat inspection on Thursday, November 15, from 10 am-12:30 pm. Monthly inspections are held on the third Thursday of every month, from March to December at the White Flint Rockville dealership on Nicholson Lane. Visit www.FitzMall.com for details or to make an appointment.

Jack Fitzgerald Named a Resolute Advocate for Children’s Safety

Honored at the Hearts & Homes for YouthCelebrating the Spirit of Legacy Event

KENSINGTON, MD – October 17, 2012   Jack Fitzgerald, CEO and founder of Fitzgerald Auto Malls, was honored this week at the Hearts and Homes for Youth’s (HHY) 4th annual HONOR’s Celebrating the Spirit of Legacy.  It is Mr. Fitzgerald’s personal mission, as well as a company-wide belief, to protect and keep our children safe.
Nearly 400 community leaders and friends gathered for an evening of auctions, dinner, awards and networking. The annual event honored four individuals for their commitment to our community—Jack Fitzgerald, Patrice & Scott Brickman, and Leon Harris.  This event benefits HHY’s mission of helping troubled children and youth become independent and productive adults.
Jack Fitzgerald started the Fitzgerald Child Car Seat Inspection Program in 1999 after learning about the dangers of improperly installed child safety seats.  As of June 2012, Fitzgerald Auto Malls has installed over 42,000 child safety seats—the single largest number of inspections by a dealership group in the United States.  It is the first private organization to achieve this record number of inspections within a single program.  FitzMall also continues to provide Child ID packs for children in our surrounding communities.  The next child safety seat check is Thursday October 18th from 10:00am to 12:30pm at the Rockville Buick GMC Dealership.
“We are committed to increasing the number of lives saved through properly installed child safety seats,” said Jack Fitzgerald. “I am privileged to be able to contribute to the safety of our community and it is wonderful that Hearts and Homes for Youth continues to raise awareness and protect these children.”
This commitment to child safety is just one of many ways Fitzgerald Auto Mall sets themselves apart from other dealers in the area.  Fitz Mall strongly believes in serving the communities by protecting children and reducing the number of injuries and fatalities that occur as a result of child safety seat misuse.  Monthly child safety seat events are held at the White Flint Rockville dealership on Nicholson Lane, on the third Thursday of every month.  Details and appointments for safety seat checks can be found at www.FitzMall.com.
